Public Advisory on Safeguard Duty
Dear Valued Customers,
Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC), would like to inform the public that following the issuance of Department Administrative Order (DOA) No. 20-11 by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) imposing provisional safeguard duty on some imported motor vehicles, our nationwide dealer partners will be collecting the following provisional cash deposit on brand new car purchases affected by the provisional safeguard duty. The provisional cash deposit shall be inclusive of VAT and in addition to the vehicle SRP.
Currently, some Mitsubishi dealers still have available Xpander, Montero Sport 2WD and Strada vehicles on hand that are not yet affected by the provisional safeguard duty and which will not be affected by the provisional cash deposit.

Exempted from the provisional safe guard duty are:
· Montero Sport 4WD GT
· Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV
· Mitsubishi L300
· Mitsubishi Mirage/ Mirage G4

1. What is the Provisional Safeguard Duty on imported vehicles?
The provisional safeguard duty is import duty in the form of cash bond as imposed by Department of Trade Industry (“DTI”) as per Department Administrative Order (“DAO”) No. 20-11.

6. Will the provisional Safeguard Duty increase the SRP?
· Provisional Safeguard Duty will not increase the current SRP. However, safeguard duty deposit will be collected separately.

8. Why is there Value - Added Tax (VAT) included in the SG duty deposit?
In the event that the provisional safeguard duty will be made permanent, safeguard duty will be part of the SRP.
9. When will the safeguard duty deposit be collected?
· Safeguard duty deposit will be collected coinciding with the settlement of down payment.
· Upon payment of safeguard duty deposit, acknowledgement receipt will be issued.
10. Can the Safeguard Duty deposit be refunded?
In the event that the Tariff Commission decides that there is no basis to impose safe guard duties, the customers will be notified by the Mitsubishi Motors dealership where the vehicle was purchased regarding return of deposit. For a smooth transaction, customer will be asked for his preferred date and time for a scheduled release of deposit.
11. When will the customer know if the implementation of the Safe Guard Duty will not be imposed?
Within a period of 200 days from February 1, 2021, the Tariff Commission will decide if there is sufficient basis to impose safe guard duties. Tariff Commission will submit Formal Investigation Report to the Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry on June 3, 2021.
12. How can a customer claim his/her deposit?
In the event that the Safe Guard Duty has been decided not to be imposed by the Tariff Commission, the customer will be contacted by the Mitsubishi Motors dealership that sold the vehicle. A date and time for the reimbursement of deposit will be set for a smooth transaction. Customer or assigned representative will be requested to be bring the following documents when claiming the refund:

· 1 valid government issued ID
Representative to claim:
· Authorization letter from vehicle owner
· 1 valid government issued ID of vehicle owner
· 1 valid government issued ID of representative
