1. What is the Provisional Safeguard Duty on Imported Vehicles?

The provisional safeguard duty is an import duty imposed by Department of Trade Industry (“DTI”) pursuant to Department Administrative Order (“DAO”) No. 20-11 effective February 1, 2021. This was in the form of a cash bond collected by the Bureau of Customs on some imported passenger cars and light commercial vehicles as shown below..

The customer should be able to show the corresponding Acknowledgement Receipt issued by the Dealers for the safeguard duty deposit

6. Was the safeguard duty deposit part of the vehicle purchase price, down payment or reservation fee?

No. The safeguard duty deposit was not part of the vehicle purchase price, down payment or reservation fee. This was collected separately as a deposit from the customers. .

7. Am I qualified to request for a refund?

If you have paid the safeguard duty deposit in cash upon purchase of the covered vehicles, you are entitled to the refund as provided in No. 4 above.

8. What is the proof of the customers to show payment of safeguard duty deposit?

Your selling dealer will reach out to you regarding the requirements and schedule of your refund. You can also contact your selling dealer to set an appointment.

- The refund procedure will be processed after the release of the corresponding Customs Memorandum Order (CMO).
